This is probably the holy grail of deep fryer recipes, and probably the main reason that many people buy deep fryers in the first place! Deep fried Twinkies are not only tasty but are so visually pleasing that you’ll leave your friends speechless with a dessert that they won’t forget for a long while! Here I’ll give you a recipe for the basic deep fried Twinkies and bacon wrapped deep fried Twinkies. These are not for the faint hearted!

Deep Fried Twinkies

Ingredients:

  • 6 Twinkies
  • 6 Skewers or Popsicle sticks
  • flour

Batter

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 T vinegar
  • 1 T oil
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t salt

Directions

  1. Freeze the twinkies for at least 2 hours or overnight
  2. Heat your oil in fryer to 375 degrees.
  3. Mix the milk vinegar, milk and oil together in a bowl.
  4. In another bowl blend flour, baking powder and salt.
  5. Whisk wet ingredients into dry, mix until smooth.
  6. Refrigerate until oil reaches temperature.
  7. Insert sticks into Twinkies, leaving enough of a end to hold.
  8. Roll Twinkies in flour and dip into batter be sure batter covers the entire Twinkie
  9. Place Twinkie in hot oil with utensil being sure that it browns evenly (the Twinkie will float) about 3- 4 minutes.
  10. Remove to paper towel- cool 5 minutes.
  11. Serve with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce or berry preserves or sauce.

Bacon Wrapped Deep Fried Twinkies

Ingredients

  • 6 Twinkies
  • 6 slices of bacon
  • 6 skewers or Popsicle sticks
  • flour

Batter

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbs lemon juice
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp . baking powder
  • ½ tsp . kosher salt
  1. Freeze Twinkies for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. In a small bowl, mix the lemon juice, oil and milk. Combine in one bowl and place in the refrigerator for one hour.
  3. Heat oil to 375 degrees. Wrap each Twinkie with a slice of bacon. Affix the bacon with a toothpick.
  4. Lightly dust each Twinkie with flour and then dip them the batter. Use a skewer or Popsicle stick inserted into the center as a handle to evenly coat the Twinkies.
  5. Fry until golden brown, about four to five minutes. Remove to paper towels to drain.
